Team Spirits

Team Spirits.  What does it really mean?

  1. Spirit: enthusiasm
  2. Spirit: distilled liquor
  3. Spirit: ghost

Well all three apply as far as our 2020 Rebel Beach Am-Am (BYOCV) tournament at the Hernando Oaks Golf & Country Club on March 21st.

Thanks to our sponsor Downing Funeral Home & Cremation Services.  And thanks to the 5 medios from the Tampa chapter that made their way up to play.

Also welcome to new members John Cornell, John Needham and Mike DeMonti.

Team spirits (enthusiasm) were evident as 2-player teams competed for the two-headed trophies.  Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus, there were many last minute team changes and no time for those teams to coordinate team outfits.  However one team was able to make the effort pay off.  Brown and McNeal wore matching outfits and won the his & hers coffee mugs and complementary team spirits (liquor).  Honorable mention goes to Johnny Botts who was conned by his teammate into wearing an unmatched military camo outfit (shown below without the shirt which had already been shed).

And last but not least, there was a 3-way tie for first place which necessitated to a play-off.  Unfortunately, Andrew left to go to work before he knew.  That left the two CLs to battle it out in a chip-off at the 18th green.  And we had Tampa expert Tom "Mr. Shootout" Wilkes to preside over the contest.  In fact, all 4 of Tampa's other players were there to bear witness.  And the Spring Hill had team spirits (ghosts).

Chris held a slight advantage in the first two rounds with the shorter-but-not-short first putt.  But he made neither putt and Padre made clutch not-a-gimme second putts both times to stay alive.  Then in the third round, Padre put a downhill chip to two feet that he ended up making to seal the deal.
