Matt Keller captures first title at 2019 F.U. Open

'Murika!  F*ck Yeah!  Land of the free, and home to many of the world's shittiest golfers.  38 such golfers came together to celebrate this great country of ours to participate in the Columbus MGA 2019 F.U. Open!  Oakhaven Golf Club was the site of this patriotic event for the 2nd time, and boy did it prove a challenge for many.  But 1 person in particular rolled in on his M1A2 SEP tank, took aim at 18 hostiles, and eliminated the threats.  That brave soldier was Matt Keller, who fired a sizzling 83 (+3) round en route to a 1 stroke victory over runner-up Doug Short's 87 (+0).  Matt's round consisted of 10 pars, 5 bogeys, and 3 double bogeys - a stellar mediocre round!  This was Matt's first MGA victory, and first major!  Matt's previous best finish was a 3rd place finish at the 2018 MGA Championship.  This was also Doug's best finish as his previous best was last month's MGA Championship where he finished in 7th.  In a tie for 3rd place were 2 guys who lately love camping out with their snipers in the Top 5 - Steve Sillato (86 +2) and Todd Hamilton (88 +0).  Steve leads the chapter in Top 3 finishes this season with 2, while Todd's solid performance this season has him currently sitting in 3rd on the chapter money list.  Joe Ritch's 87 (+2) clinched the 5th place spot in the event.  This is Joe's best finish since his runner-up at the season opening Rebel Beach Am-Am, where he won the team trophies with partner Merrill Wheeler.

The "cash" line for this event was a net score of 95, which saw 5 guys tie for the final cash spots - Ben "Weekend Hack" Reeb (+6, from the blue tees), Connor Mazza (+10), John Leite (+1), Merrill "Wheels" Wheeler (+0) and David "0 F*cks" Knowles (+5).
Keller also took home the Gross Award with his score of 83.  Most Mediocre Award went to Brent Isner whose 92 (+5) put him right in the middle of the field.  Long Drive Award went to Justin Higgins whose drive into the wind went so far we are still waiting to hear back on whether or not he had cart path assistance (it was a bomb - and even if he did get cart path help, it wouldn't be the first time it's happened... right Biggz?).  Closest to the Pin Award went to Joe Milacek.  Neither Joe nor Justin birdied their holes, and there were no eagles recorded, so the jackpot of $74.00 carries over to the next event.  The Meltdown Award went to Justin Kudela whose 14-stroke meltdown was immensely aided by a back 9 60, or more specifically by his 13 on the par 4 18th.  Last, but certainly not least, the Red Key Award went to Jason "New Jason" Tolman whose 129 (+0) earned him his 38th place finish and the option of playing from the Silver tees at Royal American next month.
And speaking of playing a different set of tees, Matt Keller will get to play 1 set of tees behind the field.
