A cart, a cart! My kingdom for a cart!

Dateline:  Southern Hill Plantation Club, Brooksville, Florida - June 20th, 2020

A field of 22 medios and 11 guests met to play in The MGA tournament and the fun started before any of the players even showed up.  I was told when I arrived early to set up that almost all the club members playing in the morning had gone out one-to-a-cart even though such cart restrictions were no longer in place.  This meant that the MGA players would not be able to get carts until they came back in off the course, unless we wanted to take one of the roofless ones (see guest BD in the picture above).

Unless a player used a roofless cart, they either had to carry their equipment around to practice or just wait around.  And It was not hot; it was damn hot!  It was so hot that one of our guests got overheated on the back nine and couldn't finish.  We went from drenched from rain at our last event to drenched from sweat, even before play started.  And several were teed off before they actually teed off.  Excitement was high coming in though.

Both temperatures and some people's blood pressure rose high quickly.  But eventually everyone got a cart with a roof and teed off more-or-less on time.  Heat was a factor all day but things got better once everyone got their carts and got going.  But medios be medios.

After such a day, everyone was glad to get back to the hacienda and cool off a bit.  Many stayed around for the awards ceremony.

The grand prize, Most Mediocre, went to Ian Peterson in only his 2nd event.

Frank Mendes won the stress ball with his 46/56 meltdown.

Carole Baskin aka Chele Adams finished with the highest score of 134 but relinquished the Key to the Red Tee award to the next closest (not close at all), John Grochowicz with 117.  Congratulations John for your good fortune!  Maybe you can join Chele at the red tees at the Bratish and thank her yourself.

Oh yeah, we also had some other hardware to give out.  After failing miserably to sandbag a week earlier and thus DQing in the Tampa F.U. Open, Ariel played the regular tees here and won with an 84 net 90.  Yet another Spring Hill trophy and kinda big check ceded to the Tampa crew.

This was no runaway either.  There were seven other players within 5 strokes of the winner (eight if you count CL Padre playing as a guest who also shot 90 ☹).

Thanks to everyone who stayed and played through the cart fiasco and the high & dry weather.  Thanks to Dawn who came out to help even without fiancee and medio Troy even being in town (and I think this may have been the quickest after play finished that we had the results ready - probably because I stayed away).  And thanks to Johnny Botts who despite surgery on his hand, came out anyway and took a boatload of pictures.
