Chapter News

1st tournament of season won by a rookie!

It took a playoff hole to determine the winner for OC. Unfortunately it wasn't even close in the Chapter Cup against IE.

Travis Strang and Jeff Cool share the Gross Award shooting 87, however during the playoff hole Jeff put his approach shot in the water sealing the victory for Travis who takes home the $1.35 big check and brand new The MGA medallion. Jeff Cool earns .90 cents for 2nd place. Outside of the 80's and in 3rd place is Jonathan Reatiga shooting 91 and pocketing .75 cents. Right behind him with a 93 is Bobby Foster getting .68 cents.

5th place results in a tie at 94 between Greg Valenzuela and Jason Weamer. They both earn .56 cents. Barely missing out on the top 5 with a 95 is Kenny Carlson in 7th earning .45 cents. After that comes last years chapter money list winner Michael DeSio with a 96 and .38 cents in 8th. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Coming in with a 97 and .30 cents is Michael Masek who traveled from West Valley AZ to play. That's a long way for 9th place. Finally, rounding out the top 10 is Carl Swanstrom with a 98 who earns .23 cents.

There were some truly mediocre scores which resulted in Matt Schmidt winning Most Mediocre with a 107... yikes!

The Long Drive was reported to be 300+ yards by Jason Weamer. It must have hit the cart path or a sprinkler.

Closest to the Pin was snatched in the 1st group by Kenny Carlson. The wind probably helped that shot.

The Meltdown Award is shared between Greg Valenzuela Sr and Scott Miller with an astronomical +14 on the back. What are the odds 2 medios achieve that level of mediocrity?

Speaking of Greg Valenzuela Sr, he also "wins" the season's 1st Red Key with an eye opening 132. He'll get to play from the red tees at the next tournament at La Mirada GC.

Somehow the stars aligned and both OC and IE brought 24 medios to the tournament for a total of 48. By far the largest group for either chapter. Unfortunately, that's where the good ends for OC as the IE ran away with the chapter cup. The final score was 17.5 to 6.5 in favor of IE. Looking at the scoreboard, OC had a lot of high scores while IE had a lot of medios shoot well under their average. It just wasn't OC's day.

Due to the Corona Virus, the next tournament is the rescheduled Rebel Beach Am-Am which will take place at La Mirada Golf Course on May 30th. Can anyone beat last years combined low score of 166? Which pairing will be best dressed?
